The current official position

In two July 25 notices, the developer said the game itself had no embedded virus or malware and that the compromised Discord server was not integrated with the game. Update 3.2.0 then said the prior version had resolved the issue by making execution of unrelated files such as malware impossible, and said this was confirmed with Steam Support.

Those are first-party statements. They are stronger evidence than a rumor screenshot, but they are not an independent audit by this site.
